We’ve had a very busy week speaking across a number of panels at Conference, meeting Londoners, and advocating for what our great city needs if it is to be returned to its former glory. If only Sadiq Khan could have done the same at Labour Conference last week….
EMMA BEST AM: LAMÉ MUST GO IF NIGHTLIFE IS TO THRIVE
Speaking at an event hosted by Conservative Home and LGBT+ Conservatives, Deputy Leader Emma Best AM was discussing her report out this week on London nightlife. Working with industry experts, she has compiled 10 recommendations on how we can save and improve London’s night-time economy, including setting up a Nightlife Prosperity Fund, improving transport, and seeking to provide security - particularly for women and girls. Emma also called for Amy Lamé to be sacked, and lo and behold 48 hours later, Lamé resigned! Watch the reaction below:
NEIL GARRATT AM RAISES PLIGHT OF TFL BUS DRIVERS
We kicked off the week with an appearance on Politics London for our Group Leader Neil Garratt AM, who clashed with Nesil Caliskan, Labour MP for Barking, over TfL’s treatment of bus drivers. Discussing reports that drivers were working in allegedly unsafe conditions and under stressful expectations, Nesil tried to shift the blame onto the bus companies - but Neil pushed back, pointing out that it's the Mayor's financial choices, not the bus companies, that are at fault - for example, Sadiq Khan’s choice to waste TfL funding on gimmicks, rather than investing in safe working conditions. Watch now:
LORD BAILEY AM MAKES THE CASE FOR TACKLING THE HOUSING CRISIS
Speaking at our Conference panel event hosted with Conservative Home, Lord Bailey AM kicked off the discussion about housing with his impassioned plea that we must do more to solve the housing crisis and deliver a Conservative solution to the issue. Sadiq Khan has neglected his duty to build affordable housing for Londoners, and we as a Party need to push the Mayor and the Government to deliver on what they have promised. If they cannot, then we must. Listen to Lord Bailey:
SUSAN HALL AM LAYS BARE THE FAILURE OF SADIQ KHAN TO GET A GRIP ON CRIME
Policing is an issue that Susan Hall AM is very serious about and with good reason. When knife crime, gun crime, and robbery are all rising, and the only thing that is down is Met Police recruitment, it is clear that Sadiq Khan as Police and Crime Commissioner has failed. There is a crisis in confidence in our police, and Susan Hall rightly recognises that something needs to be done. You can hear Susan’s moving call to action here:
THOMAS TURRELL AM CALLS FOR A WORKING TRANSPORT NETWORK
Boris Johnson had ambition which Sadiq Khan simply doesn’t, says Thomas Turrell AM. Particularly, ambition for a working transport network that Londoners can rely on. Speaking as an Assembly Member and Councillor in Outer London, Thomas takes Khan to task on the failures of ULEZ, the weak promises of Superloop, and the delays to Crossrail that all happened under this Mayoralty:
