CITY HALL CONSERVATIVES SHRED SADIQ KHAN’S DRAFT BUDGET
Khan’s cutting police figures - and still can’t answer our questions!
January Plenary kicked off yesterday morning with an opportunity to scrutinise the Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan’s draft budget, ahead of the final hearing next month. We got straight to work stripping it apart - to find out how, read on.
KHAN’S BUDGET JUST ISN’T CLEAR - ALL PARTIES AGREE
Neil Garratt AM, as Chair of the cross-party Budget and Performance Committee, got the first opportunity to take Khan’s budget to task section by section. Responding in his capacity as Chair, Neil outlined criticisms which even Labour made of their own Mayor - including hiding the number of police officers he’s planning to cut. Watch Neil eloquently put Khan on the record:
LAMÉ SETS UP A 24HR CITIES CONSULTANCY - BUT WHAT CAN LONDON NIGHTLIFE EXPECT?
After 8 years of failure, Amy Lamé stood down as Night Czar in October, depriving us of more opportunities to highlight how under her tenure, London nightlife has collapsed. Nonetheless, Lamé was back in the news this week as she launched her new consultancy, “24hr Cities”. Let’s hope her new clients get better value for money than her last one! Meanwhile, Emma Best AM asks the Mayor: what can London’s nightlife expect in our first post-Lamé budget? Not much, it seems:
SADIQ KHAN: LYING, OR MISLEADING?
Khan’s manifesto promised us how much better things would be in London if we had a Labour Mayor and a Labour Government. Unfortunately for him, it seems in the intervening months it has been quite the opposite. Taxes are up, bills up, the economy is down, and money getting ever tighter. So, asks Alessandro Georgiou AM, did the Mayor lie in his manifesto or is he just misleading us now?
JOIN CITY HALL CONSERVATIVES, THE SHADOW HOME SECRETARY, AND CRUSH CRIME
On February 11th, Neil Garratt AM, our leader, will be hosting a panel conversation with the Rt. Hon. Chris Philp MP, Shadow Home Secretary, and Dr Lawrence Newport from CrushCrime, to discuss the rampant theft epidemic in London. As bike and phone thefts particularly feel increasingly decriminalised, we ask: what can be done? And how do we do it? If you’re interested in RSVPing or finding out more, email neil.garratt@london.gov.uk for more details.
