COME ON ENGLAND!
Football Fever has come to City Hall!
We’re one match down and already storming it - we’ve been gripped with football fever at City Hall this week ahead of England’s first match on Wednesday, and we’re wishing the team all the best in their upcoming matches as we fight our way to the final. But that’s not all we’ve been up to - from useless Deputy Mayors to anti-car measures, read on to find out what we’ve been doing to fight for you this week:
SADIQ KHAN’S ANTI-CAR MEASURES ARE KILLING LONDON
Our high streets are struggling under a multitude of woes - Government taxation, energy costs, regulation increases, and more. This week, Andrew Boff asked whether the Mayor’s parking restrictions are hurting high streets and businesses by making it harder for customers to get to shops. It looks like the Mayor’s team hasn’t even assessed the possibility that this is happening, but admits that it likely is having an impact!
POLITICKING IS COSTING LONDONERS MILLIONS
The row about Palantir’s contract with the Met is only getting bigger and bigger, as we discovered last week that 750 frontline police officers may get the sack in order for the Met to save the money lost from the cancellation of the contract. Emma Best AM asked the Deputy Mayor this week for the moment she knew that the procedure hadn’t been followed properly - and it looks like the Deputy Mayor might have waited and waited before acting, costing Londoners even further.
COULD ULEZ CAMERAS SOLVE CAR THEFT?
They’re everywhere now, watching your journey and billing you if your car isn’t compliant. But if the police want to use ULEZ cameras to check the footage, TfL requires them to jump through countless hoops to get it. Thomas Turrell AM asked the Mayor whether or not the police could be given automatic access to help them track stolen vehicles. If the cameras are there, Londoners may as well get some benefit from them!
IT’S COMING HOME
Congratulations to the England team on beating Croatia on Wednesday! We’re past the most difficult game of the group, and it should now be plain sailing for England to get through the remainder of the group stage. City Hall Conservatives are wishing our team all the best and will be watching closely - come on, England!
