MAYOR’S QUESTION TIME: SADIQ KHAN GOES MENK-TAL OVER TFL ADVERTISING
Hot Dogs vs Hate Preachers on the Tube shows the absurdities of TfL advertising policies under Sadiq Khan's watch
Mayor’s Question Time this week saw the Mayor taken to task by Conservative Assembly Members - with some typical weaselling by Sadiq Khan to avoid answering our questions. Scroll down to watch just some of what our Assembly Members have been asking the Mayor of London about, and judge for yourself whether he’s fit to be leading our great City.
HOT DOGS VS HATE PREACHERS
TfL’s advertising rules were exposed this week as Kafkaesque by Susan Hall AM, who highlighted the ridiculous inconsistency over what is and is not permissible. Comedian Ed Gamble had to photoshop a hot dog out of a poster advert because of the high fat content of the food. However, it appears that it’s perfectly fine for a company to advertise its services using a man who once referred to homosexuality as “filthy”, and gay people as “worse than animals”. Watch Susan’s brutal takedown of the hypocrisy:
ARMANI MAYOR FOR SALE
Alessandro Georgiou AM didn’t let up the pressure on Sadiq Khan over freebies he’s received in office. The list of hospitality and gifts received is mind-boggling, as the Labour Party continue to plead national poverty and insist that Brits should brace for a difficult winter with tough financial decisions. Let them eat cake indeed!
KHAN REFUSES TO TELL US WHAT’S ON HIS WISHLIST
Neil Garratt AM, Leader of the City Hall Conservatives, went straight in on Khan’s refusal to criticise his new Government chums. Asking Sadiq whether he’d stopped asking for money now that Labour was in Government, the Mayor suddenly got very catty - and refused to divulge his wishlist asks. Either Londoners’ financial needs have changed, or Khan’s principles have - you be the judge:
BOFF: KHAN DUCKS AND DIVES ON ‘ROGUE LANDLORD’ ATHWAL
Should Labour MP Jas Athwal be on the rogue landlord register? Sadiq Khan won’t answer. Asked repeatedly by Andrew Boff AM whether the Mayor thinks that Athwal, the Ilford MP who was found to own flats in terrible conditions, should be on the register of slumlords, Sadiq Khan was speechless. Instead, he had a litany of excuses about how austerity was responsible for the state of these flats - instead of the MP who owns them. Absurd!
