Sadiq Khan REFUSES to apologise for smearing grooming gang campaigners
Plus: What’s happening to Notting Hill Carnival?
This week was Mayor’s Question Time, when we’re allowed to question Sadiq Khan on any topics of our choosing. Naturally, the Grooming Gangs Scandal was the top our list, but we also asked about everything from local bus routes to the Green Belt. Take a look at some of the highlights below!
SADIQ KHAN MUST APOLOGISE FOR SMEARING GROOMING GANG CAMPAIGNERS
Over a decade ago, the City Hall Conservatives released a report which discussed issues such as the Grooming Gangs Scandal and the trafficking of children. In January of this year, we joined calls for a national inquiry and asked Sadiq Khan what he thought of the issue.
We were horrified that Sadiq Khan at the time pretended not to know what a “grooming gang” was, just as we were horrified to hear Keir Starmer call those calling for a national inquiry “far-right”.
A national inquiry into a scandal of this magnitude is not “far-right” – it’s just right.
We asked Sadiq Khan whether he has changed his mind in light of this week’s news that a national inquiry will be held – but he shamefully failed to answer:
SADIQ KHAN’S RUDENESS WON’T SOLVE LONDON’S PROBLEMS
Many of you will have seen a recent video from Robert Jenrick MP, where he did Sadiq Khan’s job for him and confronted fare evaders on the London Underground (if not – click here to watch it.) With fare evasion costing TfL well over £100 million per year, it’s clear that not enough is being done to stop it. But instead of Sadiq Khan agreeing with Robert Jenrick that fare evasion needs to be taken more seriously, he resorted to calling Robert childish names.
Sadiq Khan can be as rude as he likes – but petty name calling won’t solve London’s problems.
WHAT’S HAPPENING TO NOTTING HILL CARNIVAL?
Notting Hill Carnival is one of London’s most famous events, with people from across the country coming to our city to take part. But it has become a victim of its own success, and the sheer number of people coupled with the narrow streets in the area mean that there is an increasing danger of crowd-surging. City Hall has financially supported Notting Hill Carnival for some time now, in order to help provide safety and security. But this year, even more money is required to alleviate the pressure at various pinch points, putting the festival at risk. Susan Hall asks – should the Government contribute to an event at which two people died last year, or is it time to start looking at safer alternative arrangements?
SADIQ KHAN CAN’T ANSWER THIS QUESTION…
Now that Labour and Reform have both voted in favour of plans to build tower blocks on London’s Green Belt, Andrew Boff AM had a very simple question for the Mayor:
“Will you rule out building on London’s parks?”
It’s a very simple question – or so you’d think. Sadiq Khan point blank refused to answer. Watch the tumbleweed moment below – and then go to saveourgreenspaces.co.uk and sign the petition to save our green belt!
