This week, we’ve been focusing on what we can do to improve the quality of London’s rivers, getting tough with Thames Water bosses and holding Sadiq Khan’s Deputy Mayor to account. Take a look below! But first, a quick preview of an event we’re holding next week.
Crush Crime event – next Tuesday!
On Tuesday 11th February, Neil Garratt AM, leader of the City Hall Conservatives, will be hosting a panel conversation with the Rt. Hon. Chris Philp MP, Shadow Home Secretary, and Dr Lawrence Newport from CrushCrime, to discuss the rampant theft epidemic in London.
With nearly 140,000 phone thefts in London in 2023 alone, we ask: what can be done?
If you’re interested in RSVPing or finding out more, email neil.garratt@london.gov.uk for more details.
What does Sadiq Khan have to offer Londoners?
Our TikTok channel is a great way to stay up to date with what’s going on in our great city, as well as taking a sneak peak behind the scenes of what it’s really like to be at City Hall where the decisions are made. You can follow our channel by clicking HERE.
We were challenged to explain everything Sadiq Khan had to offer London in just 20 seconds. Our attempt is below – how do you think we did?
Getting tough with Thames Water bosses
In Squirrels Heath, Havering, residents are facing the persistent overflowing of raw sewage on a residential street. Keith Prince did the right thing and immediately contacted Thames Water, expecting them to respond promptly and politely, explaining what they would do to fix it. Instead, he was fobbed off by a puerile response.
Watch him demand answers from Thames Water:
Schooling Sadiq Khan’s Deputy Mayor for Environment
Mete Coban, Sadiq Khan’s Deputy Mayor for Environment, tried to pull a fast one on Wednesday, claiming that outer London boroughs have only struggled with funding since 2010. In fact, as Thomas Turrell AM explains, the issue of funding goes back long before this – and if we are to have any hope of fairer funding for London, all parties must be honest about the truth.
Thomas Turrell AM then goes on to ask the Deputy Mayor whether he agrees with the cross-party Environment Committee’s recommendation to increase the target for roads with sustainable drainage systems, which help to prevent flash flooding in built up areas during heavy rain. No prizes for guessing the Deputy Mayor’s answer…
